How to Initiate hESC Research at the UC Davis TSRF

  1. Plan your research.
    1. How will the research be funded (NIH, CIRM, or other sources)?
    2. Who will participate in the research?
    3. What prior experience do proposed participants have with cell culture? Will training be required?
    4. What hESC cell lines are proposed for use?
    5. What equipment and supplies will be required?
  2. Complete and submit an Investigator Request for Access form.
  3. Complete and submit a Human Stem Cell Research Application to the SCRO Committee if prior approval has not been obtained.
  4. Complete and submit a Biological Use Authorization form, if needed.
  5. Take the appropriate training.

      2. Safe Use of Biological Safety Cabinets (1.5 hr, enroll here)
      3. Safe Use of Cryogenic Liquids if the research plan calls for cryopreserving (1.5 hr, enroll here)
    2. TSRF specific.
      1. Training requirements depend on previous experience and research requirements. Training requirements will be determined when meeting with the TSRF Program Coordinator.
  6. Obtain any necessary Material Transfer Agreements.
  7. Contact the TSRF Program Coordinator to discuss needs (including equipment calendar sign-up, reagents, or other special needs) and to arrange for facility access.
